Al-Mikdad: High ranking negotiations between Russia, Iran and Turkey will result in stopping Turkish military interference in Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria hopes that the Turkish military interference in the country will stop as a result of the high ranking negotiations between Russia, Iran and Turkey, Syria’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad said in a statement to Sputnik, pointing out this interference will have impacts on peace and security inside Turkey itself.

“Moscow and Tehran have reiterated their rejection of illegal foreign forces in Syria, and unlike Ankara, they have also stressed commitment to fighting terrorism in the country,” added al-Mikdad, stressing that the Turkish side must realize that its support for terrorist organizations in Syria doesn’t help Turkey or Syria.

Concerning the unilateral US sanctions imposed on Syria, al-Mikdad hoped that the letter sent by eight countries, including Syria, to the UN Chief Antonio Guterres will lead to ending the American sanctions imposed in Syria.

“The sanctions are hampering efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic globally,” said al-Mikdad, clarifying that the best policy to reach a solution to this dangerous situation in all the world is lifting these inhuman sanctions.

“This time the world is facing a common economic crisis and pandemic because of the outbreak of coronavirus, yet western countries continue maintaining their sanctions against other countries, thereby impeding effective anti-virus efforts,” al-Mikdad stressed, pointing out that such coercive measures negatively affect finding a solution to the crisis.

He called for international cooperation to confront the novel coronavirus.

“The current challenge necessitates cooperation among all countries of the world, not maintaining the sanctions that worsen the lives of the poor and help the pandemic spread everywhere,” al-Mikdad said.

Regarding the Russian role in Syria reconstruction, al-Mikdad said that Syria welcomes Russia’s participation in all aspects of economic reconstruction, noting that Russia keeps calling on the international community to support reconstruction in Syria.
