DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Exaptriates Faysal al-Mikdad has affirmed that the relations between Syria and Sri Lanka are based on cooperation, mutual respect and common principles that provide for respecting countries’ sovereignty.
Al-Mikdad was speaking during a reception held on Monday by the Honorary Cosulate of Sri Lanka marking the country’s 71st National Day.
The deputy minister noted the two countries’ keenness on enhancing bilateral ties.
He said that despite the pressure that has been put on Sri Lanka, it has supported Syria in the fight against terrorism and in the struggle to liberate the occupied Syrian Golan.
Sri Lanka has also supported the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation, al-Mikdad added.
On his part, the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Damascus Mohammad Msalam al-Droubi said that the distinguished economic, social and cultural relations between Syria and Sri Lanka are based on mutual respect and support at international forums.
He added that the two countries have a common history of struggle against Wets’s destabilization and intervention attempts.
