Al-Mikdad briefs his Indian counterpart on Syria’s counter-terrorism efforts

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal Al-Mikdad and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held talks in New Delhi on bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in Syria, the region and the world.

Al-Mikdad explained the efforts being exerted by Syria to counter foreign-backed terrorism, stressing that the steadfastness of the Syrian people and army has led to victory over terrorism.

He also clarified the impacts of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the West on the Syrian people, noting the Syrians’ suffering due to these sanctions.

Al-Mikdad renewed Syria’s call on the Indian companies to carry out investments in Syria and participate in reconstructing what terrorism has destroyed.

For his part, Jaishankar affirmed India’s support for Syria and its willingness to continue providing humanitarian aid to the Syrians, including medicines and prosthetics, and to increase scholarships for Syrian students. He added that India is also keen on enhancing cooperation to boost trade exchange between the two countries.

At the conclusion of their talks, the two ministers agreed on consultation and coordination between the foreign ministries of the two countries for holding the meetings of the joint committee.
