Al-Mikdad, Al-Halbousi discuss strengthening Syrian-Iraqi parliamentary cooperation

Baghdad, (ST) – At the end of his official visit to Iraq, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad discussed with the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Muhammad Al-Halbousi the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, especially in the parliamentary field.

The two sides also discussed work to enhance prospects of bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed coordinating joint action to achieve stability in Syria and the region. They stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination in combating terrorism.

Al-Halbousi affirmed his country’s support for the return of Syria to exercise its pivotal role in the region and the world.

Al-Mikdad conveyed the greetings of President Bashar Al-Assad to the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives,  hailing the efforts exerted by Al-Halbousi during his presidency of the Arab Parliamentary Union meeting in Baghdad. He highly appreciated the Iraqi government and people’s support for Syria during the years of crisis.

Al-Mikdad expressed Syria’s appreciation for Iraq’s supportive positions in Arab and international forums, and for standing with it in facing the crisis and the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that struck it.

In the same context, Minister Al-Mikdad discussed with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq, Judge Faeq Zaidan, means of enhancing judicial cooperation between Syria and Iraq.

During the meeting, Al-Mikdad and Zaidan stressed the depth of the brotherly relations between the two countries and the importance of strengthening them in all fields.
