Al-Maollem to Mfeketo: Syria to Press Ahead with Terrorism Fighting in Parallel with Efforts to Solve Crisis

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem has asserted that Syria is to press ahead with terrorism fighting in parallel with efforts to solve the crisis in the country and carry on Geneva talks.

Al-Moallem made the remarks during his meeting in Damascus on Wednesday with Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Nomaindia Mfeketo. The two officials talked about developments in Syria and means to enhance bilateral relations.

 The deputy premier stressed the need to unify the international community’s efforts as to combat and eliminate the terrorism phenomenon, noting to the important role South Africa can play in this respect.

He briefed the guest official on the heinous aggression which has been targeting Syria form more than five years in order to destabilize the country, destroy its social cohesion and diversity and impose strange takfiri ideologies on the Syrians through terrorists groups backed directly by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other countries that finance, train and arm terrorists from all over the world and send them to Syria.

He affirmed that the foreign-backed terrorism undermines peace, security and stability in the region and the entire world, therefore, Syria will continue to fight and eliminate the terrorism phenomenon and work to solve the crisis in the country.

Mfeketo, on her part, reiterated South Africa’s support for attaining political settlement in Syria as soon as possible and expressed her country’s readiness to help achieve this goal.  

She voiced South Africa’s support for the Syrians’ own efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in their country away from foreign interference and in a way that preserves Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and restores stability.

Mfeketo hailed Syria’s historical support for the struggle of the people of South Africa for liberation and explained her country’s experience in achieving national reconciliation.
