Al-Maollem Meets O’Brien, Stresses Syrian Government’s Keenness to Meet the Syrians’ Basic Needs

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem has stressed the Syrian government’s keenness to meet the basic needs of the steadfast Syrian people who are facing a fateful war with takfiri terrorism that is backed by some countries and forces seeking the destruction of the Syrian people’s civilization and historical achievements.

Al-Moallem remarks came during his meeting on Sunbday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O’Brien and the accompanying delegation.

Al-Moallem said that the loyalties of some workers in the humanitarian field to certain countries or forces have negatively affected cooperation between the Syrian government and the United Nations. Such behavior should stop because facts and data have proved that much of the humanitarian aid provided to Syria has aimed more at serving the programs of these countries and forces and their tools than at helping the Syrian people.

On his part, O’Brien said his visit aimed at having a true idea about the situation on ground in Syria, the requirements of the Syrian government and the efforts exerted by the government to respond to the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people.

He affirmed that “the goal of our work is providing humanitarian assistance not politicization,” O’Brein said stressing readiness to cooperate with the Syrian government.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad, the minister’s advisor Amad Arnous and concerned officials.
