NEW YORK, (ST)- Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Waleed al-Moallem has stressed Syria’s firm and principled stance in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to establish their independent state on the entire Palestinian soil with al-Quds as a capital.
In a message during the annual meeting held in New York on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People, al-Moallem reiterated the importance of this meeting in order to keep the Palestinian cause alive in the memory of the world.
The meeting was held by the committee in charge of maintaining the Palestinian people’s unquestionable rights.
Al-Moallem hailed the committee’s efforts as to implement international legitimacy resolutions relating to the Palestinian cause, which is also Syria’s central cause, and in order to uncover and condemn the Israeli occupation’s oppressive practices against the Palestinian people.
He pointed out that the United nations adopted hundreds of resolutions that called on the Israel to withdraw from all the occupied Arab lands to the June 4th 1967 lines, but, regrettably no progress has been achieved to end the Israeli occupation or stop its violations of international conventions and charter.
The Deputy premier went on to say that the war on Syria by terrorists and their supporters has been waged, in a large part of it, because Syria hasn’t surrendered to the massive pressure aiming to force the country give up its support for the Palestinian people and their just cause and give up its right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan.
Al-Moaallem condemned some regional regimes’ attempts to involve the Palestinians in the ongoing events in Syria through ordering the terrorist organizations to enter and occupy al-Yarmouk Camp in Damascus and commit atrocities that led to displacing most of the camp’s residents in addition to huge human losses.
“I would like to seize the opportunity to urge, through you, the governments of some of the countries participating in this meeting to stop providing arms as well as financial and logistic support for the terrorist groups and to stop conspiring on the Palestinian people and their just cause, al-Moallem said.
Concluding his message, al-Moallem urged the UN member countries to shoulder their responsibility towards the ordeal of the Palestinian people and to adopt tangible and deterrent action against the Israeli occupation as to put an end to its crimes, siege and inhuman practices against the Palestinians and to force the occupation to withdraw its forces to the June 4th 1967 lines.
He also called for helping the Palestinians establish their state with al-Quds as a capital in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, mainly the Security Council resolutions Nos. 242, 338 and 497.
