Al-Maliki: Syria is targeted because of its pivotal role in the region

Baghdad,(ST)- The head of the State of Law Coalition in Iraq Nouri al-Maliki called on the countries of the world, especially the Arab and Islamic countries, not to be neutral and stand with Syria in the face of the terrorism it is being exposed to. He pointed out that the terrorism Syria is being exposed to today was carefully prepared and  it affects the entire region, especially neighboring countries.

According to the “INA” News Agency, during a press conference today, al-Maliki said: “The terrorist attacks that are happening in Syria are not surprising, but rather they are part of what the region is being exposed to, and that Syria is targeted because of its geographical location, its role in the region, and its borders.

Al-Maliki denounced foreign interventions and attacks on Syria’s unity and sovereignty, pointing out that some countries want to “overthrow” Syria, end its role as a state, and divide countries surrounding the Israeli occupation entity.

He stressed that Syria is a pivotal state and “overthrowing it” means violating the entire region. He stressed that defending Syria means defending the neighboring countries and the region, so Syria must be protected so that the region can stand up to this challenge.

Since last Thursday, Syria has been exposed to terrorist attacks by foreign-backed terror organizations, using developed weapons, including drones and military equipment. They managed to enter the city of Aleppo, the second largest city in Syria, and now they are wreaking havoc in economic and governmental facilities.
