The Islamic Dawa Party in Iraq re-elected Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as its Secretary general for the two coming years .
A statement issued in conclusion of the 16th Congress of the party, which was held in Baghdad in the presence of Arab and foreign political and diplomatic figures said it also elected ten members for the party leadership, including Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ali al-Adib, Chairman of the Security and defense Committee in the Iraqi Parliament Hassan Sinead , Dr. Walid al-Heli, Sheikh Abdul Halim al-Zuheiri, Dr. Haidar al-Abbadi, who is former minister of telecommunications and Chairman of the parliamentary Finance Committee.
In an inaugural speech, Maliki said that ” national identity and tolerance must be a deterrent bulwark against all Takfiri schemes and terrorist aiming at undermining Iraq ‘s unity and thwart the political experience.”
Maliki said that “political pluralism should abide by national culture and the spirit of tolerance in order to meet citizen ‘s aspirations.”
