BAGHDAD – The armed terrorist groups in Syria is a danger threatening the country’s unity and society, warned Iraq’s Prime Minster Nouri al-Maliki on Tuesday.
In a statement published on his official website, al-Maleki said: “We have warned against the terrorist groups in Syria since the beginning of the events and said that they pose a threat to Syria’s unity and society.”
The Iraqi Premier urged mobilizing all efforts to defeat the sedition project being implemented in the region, stressing the need for the unity of the Iraqi people to face this scheme which targets the Iraqi national cohesion.
Al-Maleki pointed out that the Iraqi Army’s military operations, carried out in the areas around Baghdad, achieve a great progress as regards destroying the terrorists’ hideouts.
He reiterated that the terrorists who target the unity of the Iraqis will lose, affirming Iraq’s determination to confront the terrorists and the parties supporting and cooperating with them.
