DAMASCUS,(ST)_Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament] has said Syria is open to all sincere efforts that aim to help the Syrian people to overcome the crisis and to stop the spread of terrorism in the region.
Mohammad Jehad al-Lahham’s remark came during his meeting today with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Martin Chungong.
He referred to the IPU efforts and the international organization’s interest in situation in the region over the past decades, stressing that the terrorist war erupted in Syria and Iraq and in other countries in the region as a result of foreign intervention in the countries’ internal affairs and attempts to change regimes by force through spreading chaos and supporting armed violence which turned to be bloody terror.
Good intentions
Al-Lahham added that the PA [parliament] has opened communication channels with the IPU over the past three years thanks to the good intentions and joint efforts to crystalize a clear vision about what is going on in the region and especially in Syria.
“Those who want the good for the Syrian people, help in expanding the circle of reconciliations and national comprehensive dialogue among the Syrians,” he said, asserting that the Syrian state is open to the national political opposition, which rejects terrorism, violence and foreign intervention, and it considers this opposition as an important partner in building Syria’s future.
On his part, Chungong said that only Syrians could solve the crisis through going ahead with national reconciliations and supporting dialogue.
“The Inter-Parliamentary Union is ready to help the People’s Assembly and national reconciliation committee to enhance their mission… The direct solution to the crisis requires stopping violence in Syria,” he underlined.
According to the official news agency (SANA), al-Lahham-Chungong’s meeting dealt with ways of unifying international political and parliamentary efforts to confront extremism and terrorism that threaten every one.
