New YORK, (ST)- The situation in Syria and ways of fighting the takfiri terrorism spreading in the world with support from regional and international countries were the main topics discussed during a meeting held on Tuesday between Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Mohmmad Jihad al-Lahham and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sideline of the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments.
Ki-moon welcomed Syria’s participation in the high level conference which was an opportunity for participants to exchange view points on the situation in Syria, saying that a soon political solution will hopefully be attained to end the four years old crisis in Syria.
The PA Speaker affirmed the need to unify international efforts to combat terrorism and stop its expansion in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions.
Larijani: Solution in Syria should start with fighting terrorism in cooperation with the Syrian government
Al-Lahham also met Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Iranian Shoura Council, to discuss the situation in the region and methods of confronting extremism and terrorism fueled by western and regional regimes for political purposes.
Larjiani reiterated Iran’s support for Syria’s leadership, government and people in the confrontation of terrorism, hailing Syria’s role in fighting this “international plague” and urging political moves in parallel with military action against terrorism.
He asserted that solution in Syria should start with fighting terrorism in cooperation with the Syrian government and with holding inter-Syrian dialogue on Syria’s future.
Al-Lahham expressed Syria’s appreciation for Iran’s supportive stances towards Syria, stressing that all the countries and governments which are supporting terrorism will pay expensively for this crime and will be burnt by the fire of terrorism.

Al-Lahham: Syria’ support Cuba’s diplomacy that ended decades of Cuban-US differences
In his meeting with Speaker of the Cuban National Assembly of People Maria Machado, al-Lahham focused on political and parliamentary relations between Syria and Cuba in addition to the developments on international arena and the Cuban-American relations.
Machado affirmed that the improvement of the American-Cuban relations won’t affect Cuba’s relation with Syria, expressing hope that Syria will emerge victorious from the crisis.
Al-Lahham, on his part, expressed Syria’s support for Cuba’s diplomacy that ended decades of Cuban-US disputes.
Algerian: Syria will emerge victorious from the Crisis
The PA Speaker and Jamal Bouras, Deputy Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly discussed consolidating the Syrian-Algerian ties at the international arena.
Bouras stressed Algeria’s support for Syria against terrorism, reiterating that Syria will triumph over terrorism like Algeria did years ago.
Also, Al-Lahham met Speaker of the Sudanese National Assembly Ibrahim Ahmad Ibrahim and discussed with him ways of reactivating bilateral ties as to confront challenges facing the Arab region.
