HANOI- On the sideline of the meetings of the 132nd Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly being held in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham held talks with Mohamed-Larbi Ould Khelifa, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria.
Al-Lahham stressed the importance of Arab cooperation in confronting challenges facing the Middle East and North Africa regions, particularly the danger of the takfiri terrorism which keeps expanding and threatening the Arab countries of more weakness, fragmentation and collapse.
He hailed Algeria’s national stances and asserted the need to boost parliamentary, economic and political cooperation between the two sisterly countries.
On his part, Ould Khelifa affirmed his country’s principled stance towards Syria based on supporting political solution to the crisis in the country.
He expressed hope that “Syria will triumph over terrorism and recover from its wounds as the Algerian people did before.”
Al-Lahham also held talks with head of the Russian delegation to the IPU meetings, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Russian Federation Council “Grigory Kozichov”.
The talks concentrated on ways to enhance cooperation and coordination at all levels as to face terrorism escalation in Syria and Iraq.
The two sides stressed the depth of the Syrian-Russian relations and their importance as to confront the challenges facing the Middle East and the entire world.
