On December 19th, the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil stressed the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between Syria and Iraq and the need to increase the volume of trade exchange to achieve common interests.
During his meeting with Chargé d’Affairs of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi at the Ministry of Economy building, Minister Al-Khalil indicated the need to simplify procedures at border crossings and reduce customs duties, which contributes to the smooth and sustainable export of Syrian goods to Iraq.
For his part, Al-Hujaimi stressed the need to develop economic and trade relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation through the Iraqi-Syrian Joint Committee.
Al-Hujaimi noted the importance of Investment Law No. 18 in encouraging investment and the role of the private sector in both countries in stimulating trade and enhancing economic cooperation.
The two sides discussed the role entrusted to the Iraqi Commercial Attaché in Syria in consolidating bilateral relations and creating trade opportunities between the two countries, and stressed the importance of holding an exhibition “Made in Syria” in Iraq on December 26th.
More than 170 commercial and industrial companies will participate in the exhibition which will constitutes an important opportunity to meet Syrian and Iraqi businessmen.
