Al-Jaafari: Turkish aggression violates UNSC resolutions and Astana Understandings

Syria rejects any attempt to justify the offensive

Syria’s permanent representative at the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari renewed Syria’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the Turkish aggression on the Syrian territories and its complete rejection of Erdogan’s regime attempts to justify the offensive under any pretext, stressing that such aggression violates the UN Security Council Resolutions, Astana understandings and Sochi conference which affirm respect of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the UNSC session held yesterday on the situation in Syria, Dr. al-Jaafari said that the Turkish regime started on October 9th an aggression on Syria in a blatant violation of the international law, the UN Charter, the UNSC resolutions and the outcome of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference in Sochi which all stressed complete commitment to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Syrian diplomat clarified that Turkish aggression resulted in the occupation of Syrian lands, killing and wounding of hundreds of civilians including children, women and workers in services sectors and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of citizens.

The Turkish aggression, Dr. al-Jaafari added also caused huge material damage to utilities such as schools and hospitals and the infrastructure, especially dams, electricity stations and water networks, referring that the UN Office of Coordinating Humanitarian Affairs OCHA obviously found this aggression ordinary and didn’t even think of it, and this proves the sterility of its humanitarian claims.

Dr. al-Jaafari clarified that in a letter to the UN Security Council saying that the Turkish regime mentioned a lot of lies to justify its aggression such as – that  the aim of the aggression is to facilitate the return of refugees, preserve  the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and combat terrorism! Moreover, Dr. al-Jaafari pointed out that the Turkish regime called the region it is trying to occupy as “the safe zone”, and this confirms that the schizophrenia it suffers from is aggravating, referring that this very same regime launched the motto of zero problems with its neighbors a few years ago, but it ends with zero principles, zero friends and zero good neighborliness.

The Syrian diplomat said that the Turkish regime depended in its aggression on Syria on article 51of the charter, the same article adopted by its allies in NATO to justify direct military intervention, invasions and threatening the security and stability of many UN members as was the case when the illegitimate so-called international coalition was formed, expressing astonishment at employing this article by some states to launch aggressions and attacks ignoring the UNSC authority.

Dr. al-Jaafari renewed Syria’s categorical rejection of the attempts made by the Turkish regime to justify its aggressive attacks, pointing out that the Turkish regime violated the Adana agreement signed in 1998, through bringing , training and supporting thousands of foreign terrorists coming from more than one hundred states according to the UN reports.

He went on to say that the condemnation of the European states of  the Turkish aggression did not exempt them from their responsibilities in causing the current situation as these states played the basic role in supporting the separatist militias in the Syrian Jazira and supporting the terrorist organizations stationed in Idleb, referring to what the former envoy of the so-called International Coalition affirmed that the Turkish regime allowed more than 40000 terrorists coming from 110 states to enter Syria and join the ISIS terrorist group and refused to close Turkey’s borders with Syria before them.

The Syrian diplomat expressed surprise at the continuity of the hypocrisy of some states and their double standards as these states refer to Turkey’s hosting of Syrian refugees, but they ignore that Erdogan did this to use them as tools for his expansionist greed in the region and to blackmail Europe and threaten it time and time again

Dr. al-Jaafari also clarified that Erdogan cooperated with the UN and offered facilitations to the UN work across the borders to cover his atrocious crimes of bringing thousands of foreign terrorists  into Syria, plundering Syria’s oil, wheat, factories and crops, adding that some states preferred to ally themselves with the devil at the expense of International law, humanitarian values and the blood of Syrian people.

Dr. Al-Jaafari said that Syria delivered an official letter including its detailed reply to the General Secretariat 63 report of on the implementation of the resolutions related to the humanitarian affairs, stressing that tangible improvement of the humanitarian situation in Syria requires complete commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity through confronting political, military and economic interventions in Syrian affairs and the complete  withdrawal of all illegitimate forces from the Syrian territories, because these forces support terrorism and hinder the efforts exerted by the Syrian state and its allies to improve the humanitarian situation as is the case in al-Rukban camp in the occupied al-Tanf area.

The Syrian diplomat concluded by  calling for lifting the unilateral economic sanctions and the complete cooperation with the Syrian state in combatting terrorism and in humanitarian and development efforts.
