Al-Jaafari: Today’s Talks with de Mistura’s Team Were “Useful”, “Constructive”

GENEVA, (ST)-The Syrian Arab Republic’s delegation to the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva on Tuesday held the third round of indirect talks with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at the UN Headquarters in Geneva. The talks were described by the delegation’s Head  Bashar al-Jaafari as “useful” and “constructive”.

Speaking to reporters following the talks, al-Jaafari said “we were engaged with high sense of responsibility and objectivity in discussing all issues that could serve our country and people”.

The Syrian Republic delegation answered all the questions and inquiries made by de Mistura team, al-Jaafari said, noting that all the inquiries were made on important issues.

According to al-Jaafari, the delegation again raised many important points, particularly regarding terrorism. “We felt understanding by the Special Envoy and his team regarding our concerns over attempts by terrorism sponsoring countries and by the terrorist organizations to undermine political solution efforts, breach the cessation of hostilities agreement and launch terrorist attacks against innocent people in many Syrian areas,” he said.

The Republic’s delegation will leave Geneva on Wednesday according to the schedule agreed on with the UN side, al-Jaafari pointed out.

Yesterday, the delegation held two rounds of talks with de Mistura and his team during which the Syrian government side presented its amendments to the special envoy’s 12-point paper and considered these amendments as an integral part of the paper.
