Al-Jaafari: The Palestinian cause is a Syrian cause par excellence

Damascus (ST): The Palestinian Embassy in Damascus held a reception on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People at the Damarose Hotel.

In a speech during the ceremony, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari reiterated Syria’s principled and firm position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on their national soil with Jerusalem as its capital, while ensuring the right of refugees to return to their homes in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 194 of 1948 as it is not subject to negotiation or concession, based on the sanctity of legitimate Palestinian rights, international law and all relevant international covenants.

Dr. Al-Jaafari indicated that Syria has always considered the Palestinian cause to be its cause par excellence, just as all Syrians consider it an issue that touches them personally. He held the countries that support the Israeli occupation responsible for its continued crimes against the Palestinian people.

Al-Jaafari pointed to the sanctity of Palestinian rights, which did not come from a vacuum, but from the justice of the Palestinian cause, which was embodied in the resolutions of the United Nations, pointing out that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People has become a global platform that works to keep this issue alive and fresh in our minds, especially with the continuing danger that is still threatening it.

Al-Jaafari noted that, no progress has been made by the so-called international community to end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, and the occupation authorities have not been held accountable for their occupation, violations, contempt and violation of international laws and its charter.

The Palestinian ambassador in Damascus, Samir Al-Rifai, confirmed that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 1977, is an implicit recognition of the historical injustice that has befallen this people since the disastrous Balfour Declaration on November 2, 1917.

Al-Rifai reviewed the practices of the occupation authorities in the occupied Palestinian territories and the occupied Syrian Golan and their frantic measures to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and deport its people with the aim of expanding settlements, calling on the international community to assume its responsibility towards the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

Al-Rifai affirmed that the Palestinian people will continue their resistance until the end of the occupation and the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, pointing out that the Palestinian people deserve from the United Nations positions more than an international day of solidarity with them.
