Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, said on Thursday that the success of the political process, which is facilitated by the United Nations and led and owned by Syria, necessitates the implementation of what is required from Security Council in order to guarantee commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, ending foreign occupation, combating terrorism and the immediate lifting of the coercive measures being imposed on the Syrian people.
“The achievement of these goals is the base of any political process and Syria will never abandon them no matter what the pressures are ,” al-Jaafari added during a UN Security council session via video conference on the situation in Syria.
Al-Jaafari affirmed that preserving the international peace and security requires controlling the practices of hostile countries towards Syria and the violations of the principles of international law and rules of UN charter
He stressed that UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pederen, has to speak up against the US and Turkish intervention in Syria’s internal affairs and against the coercive measures being imposed by the US and European countries on Syria, these measures that contradict and impede the Special Envoy’s mission as they prevent food and medicine from reaching the Syrian people whic is inhumane.
Al-Jaafari expressed Syria’s hope that the logistic preparations for the next meeting of the Constitutional Committee would be completed on the dot and in a way that meets the requirements of the participation of the national delegation and that the UN takes the necessary health measures to protect the participants from Coronavirus pandemic infection according to the rules required by the World Health Organization(WHO) and the Syrian Health Ministry.
He pointed out that the approach adopted by the Western countries, and their spearhead so-called “co-penholders” during negotiations related to decision no. 2253 a few days ago and pattern of their voting on the draft resolutions submitted by Russia uncover once again the false allegations of those countries in the humanitarian commitment.
Al-Jaafari pointed out that professional, objective, and credible report about the effects of the unilateral coercive measures on the lives of Syrians should condemn the policies of countries that impose these measures because the resolutions of the UN, its bodies and agencies are clear in this context.
He added that millions of Syrians, few days ago, cast their votes in the People’s Assembly elections for the 3rd legislative term, these elections affirmed the commitment of Syria, as state and people, to continue the work of the state’s institutions, and to thwart the foreign agendas which aim to undermine it.
He wondered whether the Euopean countries would realize that their silence towards the Turkish regime’s practices against Syria and other countries threatens peace and security in Europe, or they support Erdogan’s destructive plot and crimes??
The diplomat reminded the European countries that it was the Syrian Princess Europa who gave her Name to the European Continent .
