Al-Jaafari: Syria is not against a resolution that respects Humanitarian Law and protects civilians

NEW YORK-Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari has stressed that Syria is not against a resolution that respects the International Humanitarian Law, protects civilians and provide humanitarian aid to citizens.

He made the remarks in a press conference on Monday after Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution on the deployment of international observers to the Syrian city of Aleppo in order to coordinate the evacuation of civilians from the eastern part of the city.

 All the 15 members of the UN Security Council, including Russia, have voted in favor of draft resolution submitted by France.

The resolution affirms the UN’s commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria. It necessitates that all parties in Syria should allow complete, immediate, unconditional, safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid to Aleppo and provide the observers with an opportunity to monitor the situation.

Al-Jaafari expressed his rejection to attempts by some Security Council member states to formulate and submit draft resolutions under a humanitarian cover, but in facts these attempts aim to achieve these states’ secret agendas in Syria.

He said that France and Britain have insisted on submitting and adopting such a resolution as part of their propaganda against Syria’s war on terrorism. “We respect Security Council resolutions, but, at the same time, we realize the real goal behind such efforts that aim at protecting the terrorists not the Syrian people, particularly after the image has become clear to all with the liberation of Aleppo from terrorists,” he added.

Al-Jaafari pointed out that the Syrian government is still providing more than 80% of humanitarian aid to all spectra of the Syrian people nationwide, particularly civilians. This is a principle on which the government’s work and duty towards its citizens is based, said al-Jaafari, noting that “the United Nations doesn’t do its duty the right way”.
