Al-Jaafari says talks with UN Special envoy for Syria were “useful”

Geneva – The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva held a session of talks on Friday with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at the UN Headquarters in Geneva.

In a statement to journalists following the talks, head of Syria’s delegation Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said the talks were “useful” with focus put on the document of basic elements for the political solution to the crisis which the delegation submitted to De Mistura during the previous session, SANA reported.

“We believe that adopting the principles we called ‘the basic elements’ will lead to a serious inter-Syrian dialogue that helps in building the future of our country. These principles will open the door for a serious Syrian-Syrian dialogue led by Syria without foreign interference or preconditions,” al-Jaafari added.

On Wednesday, the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic held a session of talks with De Mistura, his deputy Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, and senior assistants at the UN headquarters in Geneva.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, al-Jaafari said the talks were useful and constructive and discussed “practical steps” to help open the door for a successful Syrian-Syrian dialogue.
