Al-Jaafari: Russia’s Putin Has Become Direct Partner in Fight against Terrorism in Syria, Iraq and Entire Region

NEW YORK, (ST)- Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations has stressed the importance of the details and results of President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to Moscow. He has also asserted that the preventive pre-emptive strike made by the leaderships in Moscow and Damascus against terrorism has foiled many plans that were being prepared in the circles of the Western intelligence bodies.

Interviewed by the Syrian TV on Wednesday, al-Jaafari said the visit was important because it was unexpected, but the Syrian strategic thinking under the leadership of President Al-Assad selected the suitable time to meet with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who has become a direct partner in the fight against terrorism in Syria, Iraq and the entire region.” He pointed out that these developments have uncovered the weakness of the stances of some countries which used to deny their involvement in sponsoring terrorism and in using it to politically pressure the Syrian leadership.

Al-Jaafari went on to say that the importance of strategic Russian moves regarding terrorism fighting can be measured by the level of the hysteria and madness appeared in the western media and in the reaction of some Arab, regional and Western countries.

“The huge hysteria appeared in the European and US media, for example, proves that what happened was extremely strategic and has foiled huge plans and malicious intentions set to be implemented against Syria and its people in autumn and winter,” al-Jaafari said.

He noted that the Chairman of the Security Council Committee relating to fighting terrorism issued on Tuesday a special report in which she called the world’s countries, which have become the source of foreign terrorists coming to Syria and Iraq, to implement Resolution No.2178 on halting the flow of foreign terrorists across the borders.

He said the report indicated that “Syria,  Russia, Iran, Venezuela and other friendly countries have won the battle against terrorism at the international level, because concerned Security Council’s committees were compelled to acknowledge the rightness of the Syrian view which has been stressing over the past years that the region is being targeted by international and organized terrorism that is sponsored and supported by well-known countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France and other parties.”
