Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari discussed, during a phone call today, with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam, Pham Quang Hieu, the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries and increasing coordination and consultation between them in international forums.

Al-Jaafari praised Vietnam’s principled positions and its support for Syria during its membership in the Security Council, stressing the importance of commonalities between the two countries, especially their membership in the Group of Like-Minded Countries, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Group of 77 and the Friends of the Defense of the Charter.

Al-Jaafari welcomed Vietnam’s nomination of a non-resident ambassador to Syria, stressing the need to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields and coordinate the two countries’ positions to confront the illegal unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and the West on the peoples of the world.

In turn, the Vietnamese deputy minister praised the historical relations between the two countries and Syria’s position in support of Vietnam’s struggle for its independence and territorial integrity and to confront the American aggression against it, stressing the need to translate these historical relations politically and economically through increasing trade exchange and political and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
