Al-Jaafari discusses with Crossley the work of the World Food Program in Syria and its plans for the next year
On September 18th, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari discussed with Kenneth Crossley, the new director of the World Food Program (WFP) in Syria, the office’s achievements during the current year and future strategies and plans for the next year.
Al-Jaafari noted the positive historical relationship between Syria and the WFP, stressing the keenness to continue providing full support to the work of WFP and other organizations in order to successfully accomplish the tasks entrusted to them.
He stressed the importance of the principle of partnership that Syria deals with these organizations, which leads to the success of these organizations in their work and is reflected positively on the Syrian people.
He referred to the need to implement Security Council Resolution No. 2642, which stipulates the transition to the early recovery stage in Syria and the distribution of humanitarian aid across the lines.
He pointed to the negative impact of the Turkish regime’s manipulation of the water issue on food security and human security in Syria, as well as the impact of the theft of Syrian wealth by the American occupation on the Syrian people.
In turn, Crossley presented his vision for the WFP’s work in Syria during the next phase, speaking of the success of the “Sarmada 7″ convoy, which was launched a few days ago in transporting humanitarian aid through the lines and subsequent convoys that will be carried out across the lines in implementation of Resolution 2642.
The meeting was attended from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Director of the Protocol Department, Anfwan Al-Na’ab, Director of the International Organizations and Conferences Department, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Nahla Al-Khair from the Organizations Department, Dr. Nizar Kbebo from the Deputy Minister’s office, and from the UN side, ElissarEl-Gendy, Protocol Officer, and Noemi Anziti, Special Assistant to the Country Director.
