Al-Jaafari Denies Fabricated Reports Used by US, Britian, France to Accuse Syrian Government of Crimes

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari has denied all fabricated reports used by the US, British and French UN envoys to accuse the Syrian government of targeting citizens in Aleppo.

During a UN Security Council session Tuesday, called for by France and Britain to discuss the situation in Aleppo, al-Jaafari  said  “the Syrian government is innocent of the US and western accusations of committing crimes. The Syrian government, in cooperation with its allies, is doing its constitutional and legal duty in protecting citizens from terrorism in Aleppo and the rest of the Syrian provinces.”

Some UNSC member countries used to submit draft resolutions to the Security Council and call for urgent Council meetings based on fabricated reports, misleading information and false testimonies every time the Syrian army achieves gains against the terrorist organizations backed by the governments these very countries, al-Jaafari added.

Al-Jaafari pointed out that from the very beginning of operations in Aleppo, the Syrian government has opened safe corridors for both civilians and gunmen, secured shelters for escaped people, issued amnesty decisions and provided all forms of food and medical aid, stressing that all these services have aimed to protect civilians and rescuing their lives.

Al-Jaafari went on to say that the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who has only two week at office, hurried in issuing a statement on the situation in Aleppo based on uncertain information provided by suspicious sources.

“If the Secretary General is not able to verify the accurateness of these reports why he issues an official statement to defame the Syrian government and its allies who are actually fighting terrorism, “al-Jaafari clarified.

“How can the UN, which is supposed to be a credible source of information, issue statements and give judgments based on suspicious sources unless the goal of some members was to serve the agendas of some countries which incite against the Syrian government and to provide political and media cover to terrorist groups?” asked al-Jaafari.
