Al-Hasakah Agriculture directorate: Legume cultivation plan includes about 80 thousand hectares

The Directorate of Agriculture in Al-Hasakah has determined a plan for cultivating legume crops for the 2023-2024 season, with an area of about 80 thousand hectares, distributed in various agricultural stability areas.

Assistant Head of Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Ezz El-Din Al-Hasso, stated  to SANA correspondent that the cultivation of legumes occupies second place in terms of agricultural area in the governorate after wheat and barley for winter crops, stressing that the cultivation of lentils, chickpeas, and beans, both irrigated and rain-fed, has witnessed an increasing demand by peasants in various regions in recent years.

Al-Hasso pointed out that the planned area for growing legumes according to the agricultural sub-plan for the current season is distributed over 66,779 hectares of rain-fed land and 11,160 irrigated areas, noting that cultivation operations usually start at the beginning of next month and continue until the first half of January.

The Agriculture Directorate set the agricultural plan for growing wheat and barley crops for the current season, with an area of 870 thousand hectares.
