Al-Halaqi : No truth to rumors of fuel price increase

Damascus – The Cabinet on Tuesday discussed a number of economic and services issues, including the challenges facing the Syrian pound (SYP) and steps taken to help stabilize the Syrian Pound exchange rate.

In its weekly session chaired by Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqim, the cabinet hailed the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army, most recently restoring security and stability to Palmyra city, saying that this victory will pave the way for lifting the siege imposed on Deir Ezzor province and restoring stability and security to Raqqa province, SANA reported.

Premier al-Halaqi pointed to the government’s measures and steps taken to help stabilize the Syrian Pound exchange rate through the continued intervention of the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) in the currency market and achieving a state of balance between resources and expenditures.

He dismissed as ” untrue” the rumors of fuel price increase, instructing the Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry to monitor and regulate prices and punish manipulators.

Al-Halaqi called the Ministry of Water Resources for adopting the precautionary measures to protect water resources in the provinces and reduce wastage, particularly in light of the shortages of rainfall for this season.

The Cabinet also discussed a draft on establishing a new private university in Banias coastal city.
