Al-Dahhak: The West continues to prevent the Security Council from stopping the war of genocide in Gaza and the Israeli attacks on Syria

New York, (ST) – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, affirmed that Western countries continue to divert the Security Council from its mandate and prevent it from carrying out its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security.
Al-Dahhak stressed that the United States has thwarted the Council’s attempts to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and is obstructing, along with its allies, the Council’s move to put an end to the occupation’s attacks on Syrian territory and ensure that they are not repeated.
Al-Dahhak said during a Security Council session today on political and humanitarian affairs in Syria: “Today marks the 79th anniversary of the launch of the work of the San Francisco Conference, during which the founding countries of the United Nations, including my country, drafted the Charter of our organization and assigned the Security Council the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, hoping that our joint work in this field should be rapid and effective.”
“However, the three permanent members of the Western Council diverted the Council from its mandate, kept it silent regarding the violations committed by themselves or their allies of international law and the principles and purposes of the Charter, and used it as a platform to target a number of member states, turn against them, and promote baseless allegations”, he added.
Al-Dahhak pointed out that the ongoing barbaric Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip for about seven months has once again proven the falsity of those countries’ positions and their hypocrisy in their claimed concern for human rights, and their lack of the minimum elements that qualify them to contribute to maintaining international peace and security.
He noted that these countries continue to support the Israeli occupation militarily, financially, politically and in the media, which has pushed it to persist in its crimes against the Palestinian people and the peoples of other countries in the region, and in its effort to escalate the situation in the region and throw it into the furnace of an open regional war.
“Indeed, the American administration used its veto 5 times during the past few months, to prevent the Security Council from stopping the genocidal war committed by the occupation in Gaza, and to prevent Palestine from granting its legitimate right to full membership in the United Nations”, he said, adding that Washington and its allies also obstructed the Council’s move to put an end to the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and ensure that they are not repeated, and the Council even issued a press statement condemning the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
Al-Dahhak pointed out that the efforts of Syria and its partners, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies, collide with the challenges resulting from terrorism and the illegal presence of US and Turkish troops on Syria territories as well as from the looting of Syria’s national resources and the coersive measures imposed on the Syrians.
He reiterated the need to immediately end the illegal presence of foreign troops in Syria and lift the sanctions which impede every efforts for recovery.

He stressed that the so-called “Brussels Conference to Support the Future of Syria and the Region,” which is held without coordination with the Syrian government or its participation in it, is nothing but a show event organized by some countries to divert attention from the disastrous effects of their coercive measures.

Al-Dahhak reiterated Syria’s commitment to a political process under Syrian leadership without any external interference, and in a manner that ensures full respect for its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, which is the basic principle affirmed by all relevant United Nations resolutions.
“On the 17th of this month, the Syrian people commemorated the 78th anniversary of the evacuation of the last French colonial soldier from their land, and they will continue their struggle to liberate their lands from the Israeli occupation and illegal presence of foreign troops and terrorist organizations and militias, rebuild what terrorism destroyed and advance Syria toward a better future”, he stressed.
