Al-Dahhak on behalf of Al-Mikdad: US veto to prevent ceasefire in Gaza encourages Israel to continue slaughtering the Palestinian people

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad has stressed that the criminal Israeli escalation in Gaza and the repeated attacks on Syrian territory are part of the many acts of aggression and terrorism committed by the Israeli entity in the light of the United Nations’ failure to implement its resolutions due to the US administration’s unlimited support for this entity.

This came in a statement read on behalf of Al-Mikdad by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Qusai Al-Dahhak during the Ministerial Meeting of the Security Council on Thursday on “The Situation in the Middle East”.

He said that the failure of the Israeli war criminals to undermine the will of the Palestinian people has led them to bomb with such brutality, commit genocide and war crimes in Gaza, and seek to escalate the situation and blow up the entire region, thereby perpetuating the law of force and the law of the jungle.

Al-Mikdad stressed that Washington is deliberately paralyzing the Security Council and standing against the will of the majority of member states, pointing out that using the US “veto” to prevent a ceasefire in Gaza encourages “Israel” to continue slaughtering the Palestinian people.

He affirmed that Syria holds Israel and its supporters fully responsible for the repercussions of this escalation and urges the United Nations to work as to stop the aggression against Gaza Strip, lift the siege on it, put an end to the systematic starvation of the Palestinians and prevent their forced displacement.

Al-Mikdad went on to say that Syria condemns Washington’s use of its veto power to prevent Palestine from obtaining full membership in the United Nations and stresses that preventing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state contributes to prolonging the state of instability caused by the Israeli occupation.

Al-Mikdad also said that the Israeli occupation continues to adopt aggressive policies against the people in the occupied Syrian Golan, committing violations of international law and international humanitarian law with the aim of perpetuating and prolonging its occupation, imposing demographic change in Golan, and plundering natural resources.

He clarified that the Israeli disregard for international conventions and treaties reached the point of targeting the Iranian consulate building in Damascus in a dangerous escalation and a serious violation of international agreements and norms that guarantee the protection of diplomatic headquarters and their staff.

He pointed out that the Israeli attacks on Syrian territories coincided with the attacks of the terrorist organizations, which once again confirms the coordination between the occupation and its terrorist tools.

Al-Mikdad asserted that Syria calls on the Security Council to implement its relevant resolutions as to ensure an end to the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, and stresses Syria’s right to defend its land and people by all means guaranteed by the international law.
