Al-Dahhak: International cooperation in confronting corona virus requires from some countries to review their aggressive and politicized views
New York,(ST): Syria has confirmed that international cooperation in the face of the corona virus requires from some countries to reconsider their policies that are based on aggression and on imposing unilateral coercive measures, the siege and collective punishment on the nations. It also requires uplifting the principles of the international law and the UN Charter.
In a speech at the 31st Special session of the United Nations General Assembly in response to the Corona virus Disease (COVID-19 Pandemic), Minister-Counselor Qussay al-Dahhak, member of the permanent Syrian delegation to the United Nations, said that Corona virus pandemic has proven the connection between our nations and states and our unity in the face of a challenge that hasn’t differentiated between a small or a big country or between a developing or developed country which confirms again the pressing need to reassess and reinforce the mechanisms of collective work, in addition to activating means of international cooperation and solidarity in the face of humanitarian crises.
Al- Dahhak expressed regrets over politicizing the issue of international cooperation in confronting the corona virus pandemic which was used by some states as a tool to liquidate accounts and unacceptable politicized names, noting that Syria has been suffering from politicizing carried out by some western states of many issues including humanitarian affairs and using them as a weapon to serve foreign agendas against the region.
The Syrian diplomat added that despite the cruel economic and living conditions imposed by the novel corona virus, some member states and regional blocs have continued to impose unilateral coercive measures on many member states including Syria, ignoring the appeals by the UN Secretary General and UN senior officials who have called for ending these illegal measures which have limited the ability of the Syrian establishments to face this pandemic, the Syrian Government exerts its utmost effort in this field.
He went on to say that some Western states have been working to prove that they are guiltless of the crime of targeting Syrian people in their food, noting that some states despite the spread of Covid19 pandemic continue to exploit the suffering of refugees including the Syrian refugees through changing their basic question into a political paper to blackmail the European Union and strike suspicious deals at their expense.
Concluding his speech, Al-Dahhak stressed that the Syrian state has been working on securing the dignified, safe and voluntary return for the displaced to their homes, as it has exerted persistent efforts in cooperation with friendly countries and its partners in the field of humanitarian work to restore security and stability and to create suitable conditions for the return of the displaced and the reconstruction of what has been destroyed by terrorists, referring in this regard to the international conference on the return of refugees which was held in Damascus last month and Syria’s looking forward to the UN cooperation to facilitate the return of Syrians and the reconstruction process.
