Al-Dahhak calls on Security Council to condemn the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and assume its responsibilities in maintaining peace and security

NEW YORK, SEP.21, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Chairman of the Arab Group, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, called on the Security Council to denounce the Israeli cyber aggression against Lebanon and assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security.

He pointed out that the occupation entity, which since its inception has been based on murder, terrorism, and committing massacres, has used  in its aggression against Lebanon the modern technology that was created to serve humanity.

Al-Dahhak  added that the occupation entity turned devices used for civilian purposes into time bombs that kill their bearers indiscriminately.

In a statement he delivered yesterday in his capacity as Chairman of the Arab Group for the month of September during an emergency session of the Security Council regarding the Israeli cyber aggression against Lebanon, Ambassador Al-Dahhak said: “ Lebanon was exposed last Tuesday and Wednesday to an Israeli cyber aggression that targeted thousands of civilians in all parts of the country at the same time, by detonating thousands of devices. Pagers and wireless devices, which resulted in the martyrdom of 37 people and the injury of 3,250, hundreds of whom are still in critical condition.”

He added: “ By committing this heinous crime, the occupying entity escalated its terrorism against Lebanese civilians by targeting them and their families inside their homes and in the public places without any regard to the principles of international law, international humanitarian law, human rights conventions, and the minimum human and civilizational values.”

The diplomat indicated that over the past months, the Israeli occupation has used cyber attacks to disrupt air traffic, threaten the security of international civil aviation, the safety of travelers in Lebanese airspace, disrupt civil operational systems, and hack communication networks and electronic devices in vital installations and facilities.

He expressed the Arab Group’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the Israeli terrorist aggression against the brotherly Lebanese people, and called for its perpetrators to be held accountable, offering its sincere condolences to the Lebanese government and people and to the families of the victims and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded.

He affirmed the group’s full solidarity with Lebanon and its support in its resistance and response to the continuing Israeli aggression that threatens its security and its stability, placing additional burdens on it at a time when it faces major challenges in various sectors, including the health sector.

On behalf of the Arab Group, the diplomat called on the Security Council to condemn this Israeli cyber-terrorism and the ongoing aggression against brotherly Lebanon, which represents an extension of the acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing, and the systematic violations of international law committed by the Israeli occupation against the brotherly Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and its repeated attacks on countries in the region, including Syria.

Al-Dahhak also made remarks on behalf of Syria in which he condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against brotherly Lebanon, including cyber terrorism, which led to the death of dozens and the injury of thousands, including the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, as well as the recent barbaric aggression that  targeted the southern residential suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and resulted in the martyrdom of 14 people , including a number of children, and  the injury of 66 others.

“The c9ntinious Israeli occupation of Arab lands in Palestine, the Syrian Golan, and southern Lebanon is the root cause of the instability the Arab region, “ he said

The ambassador c9ncluded by saying: “The children of Majdal Shams are Syrian children from the occupied Golan. They and their families are looking forward to an end to the occupation and its withdrawal from the Golan in order to return to their homeland, Syria, and the solution in the region is only by ending the Israeli occupation and putting an end to its criminal practices and systematic violations of international law.”
