Agro-food processing is the focus of Sabbagh’s talks with Al-Mazroui

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Industry, Ziyad Sabbagh discussed with the Chairman of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development, Muhammad bin Obaid Al Mazrouei and his accompanying delegation, means of cooperation in the field of agricultural food processing and the available investment opportunities.

During the meeting, which took place in the Ministry building today, Sabbagh stressed that the government is working to revitalize the agricultural food processing sector through organized and studied programs and in cooperation with international organizations, as the agricultural food processing sector in Syria has declined significantly as a result of the conditions of war and siege.

A lot of Farmers have been displaced from their lands due to terrorism, which has led to the loss of large areas of agricultural lands, not to mention the shortage of agricultural production requirements.

Sabbagh pointed out that there are great, multiple and promising prospects for establishing partnerships in the field of agricultural food processing “conserves, dairy products and their derivatives, oils and the production of agricultural machinery”, and achieving a profitable economic development goal, especially since the Syrian food product has a good reputation in the Arab countries as a result of the Syrian industrialist having the necessary experience which constitutes an added value to this product.

For his part, Al Mazrouei said that the aim of the meeting is to build bridges of cooperation and establish joint projects in the field of agro-food manufacturing, given the great role played by the Ministry of Industry in the field of agricultural food production.

Al-Mazrouei said: “We seek to cooperate with small producers and farmers in Syria and provide them with the requirements of agricultural food production and modern technologies in this field, and to establish joint companies with the government and private sectors.”
