Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Mohammad Hassan Qatana has described the wheat production for the current crop year as good, pointing out that the so far marketed quantity of this production has amounted to 750,000 tons which went to the grains and seeds establishments.
Farmers were also able to save considerable quantities of seeds for the next season, he added during a meeting with directors of agriculture in the wheat-producing governorates.
Qatana said that the ministry is preparing a cultivation plan for the next crop year, clarifying that focus will be made of wheat due to its importance as a food security crop.
He pointed out that the government continues to give the agricultural sector priority through supporting it and meeting its production requirements.
Directors of agriculture in the governorates of Damascus Countryside, Daraa, Quneitra, Hama, Homs, Idlib, Aleppo, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor in addition to Director General of the General Commission for the Management and Development of Al-Ghab plain attended the meeting.
