DAMASCUS, (ST) – The participants in the deliberations of the thirty-seventh session of the General Conference of Agronomists Association recently discussed the technical agricultural and proposals to overcome the difficulties encountered in implementing the production plan for the former two seasons and ways of securing production requirements, difficulties in agricultural marketing and the low number of workers in the agricultural domain in some provinces.
The participants pointed to the need to securing a number of things that the farmers need, the interest to invest natural vegetation, providing fodder, developing programs for the management and investment of the desert, rationalization of energy consumption and the application of scientific research farm.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmed Qadri underlined importance of working to re-examine the plans and agricultural advancement of the agricultural sector, both plant and animal during future short, medium and long-term plans in parallel with the stage of recovery and reconstruction.
Mr. Qadri pointed out that the ministry is working to secure the basic necessities of the agricultural production process, mitigate the negative effects of the crisis on the agricultural sector and farmers and to find suitable alternatives to ensure the continuity of the process of agricultural productivity at all levels, noting the efforts made by agronomists to overcome all the problems of productivity and improve profitability in general.
“The government puts the agricultural sector a priority and continues to provide the necessary support to this sector due to its importance in providing the basic needs of the local market of agricultural products. This sector is a major guarantee for achieving food security and contribute to the GDP,” the minister added.
For his part, member of the national leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party and head of the Peasants Bureau, Dr. Abdel Nasser Shafi’ pointed to the achievements of realized by Syria during the past years of self-sufficiency and important agricultural renaissance which was able to move from the status of scarcity to abundance in agricultural products and achieved food security.
For her part, Head of Agronomists Dr. Rama Aziz indicated to the importance of working to find alternatives and solutions to the problems of the agricultural sector from securing basic necessities for agricultural production to marketing to complete the process of optimized agricultural productivity for the achievement of self-sufficiency through participatory with all concerned bodies.
