DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Subhi Abdullah, confirmed that the government is continues to provide support for the strategic crops (wheat, cotton and sugar beet) from the Agricultural Production Support Fund. The total amount allocated during the current year to the Fund is about two billion Syrian Pounds.
During a meeting held yesterday at the ministry, the conferees discussed ways and mechanisms to provide support for agricultural crops through the adoption of new methods to ensure justice among farmers. As soon as potentials become available, the expansion in the list of crops covered by the Fund will go ahead,” the Minister said.
He also stressed the need to develop mechanisms and new methods to ensure smart support to crops and ensure providing properly support to those who deserve it .
“Smart support has become a national need for the development of agricultural production in order to achieve food security, stressing the need to direct support at present time for the crops daily needed by citizens,” the Minister added.
He expressed optimism to the current agricultural season due to the rain that fell in most governorates, stressing that Homs, Hama and Idleb carried out more than (80) percent of the agricultural plan for the cultivation of wheat in almost ratio in al Hasaka 60 percent.
The minister revealed a vision, was put forward in some quarters in the state, on support for farmers to be offered once a year with profit margin estimated at (25) percent upon delivery of the crop to the concerned establishments.
