Latakia (ST): After a 12-year pause, the first Russian civilian passenger plane arrived today at Latakia International Airport, with the efforts and support of the Russian Trade Representation and in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Transport.
The airport director, Engineer Ziyad Tawil, said in a statement to news reporter that the Russian civil aviation company “Kosmos” launched a flight from Makhachkala Airport, the capital of the Russian Republic of Dagestan, to Syria, and this flight will be on a weekly basis.
Tawil underlined the importance of this flight, which indicates stability and the return of work in air transport, and the readiness of Lattakia Airport and its readiness to receive all civil flights, pointing out that this flight is an invitation to other airlines that wish to implement their flights through Syrian airports.
