African Union: ICJ order on Israel’s crimes in Rafah must be urgently enforced

The African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat denounced the Israeli airstrikes on a displaced persons camp in Rafah as ‘horrific’.

“Israel continues to violate international law with impunity and in contempt of an ICJ ruling two days ago ordering an end to its military action in Rafah,” said the AUC chairperson on his X account.

“The ICJ order must be urgently enforced if global order is to prevail,” he stressed, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

For his part, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed horror at the Israeli airstrikes that killed 45 internally displaced persons and caused the injury of dozens of others in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, calling for holding the perpetrators to account.
