TEHRAN, (ST)- Spokeswoman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Marzieh Afkham has stressed the availability of good mechanisms to enhance cooperation between Syria and Iran.
In her weekly press conference on Wednesday, Afkham talked a bout the fruitful visit of Syria’s Interior Minister Major General Mohammad Ibrahim al-Sha’ar to Iran and focused on the remarks made by the Supreme Leader’s Advisor Ali Akbar Velayati about next week’s important meeting of the interior ministers of Syria, Iraq and Iran in Baghdad.
“The meeting will be a qualitative step indicating the development of relations between the three countries and aiming to upgrade cooperation particularly in fighting terrorism and the terrorist organizations,” Afkham said, pointing out that the meeting will provide an opportunity for representatives of the three countries to exchange views and cooperate as to benefit from the available potentials to solve the region’s problem in a way that serves the attainment of security and stability in the Middle East.
On Iran’s nuclear file, Afkham said that Iran seeks a “good” nuclear deal with the P5+1 group, stressing that Tehran will not be bound by time in striking a final deal with the six countries.
“Iran and its negotiating partners could clinch an agreement on the final text of a nuclear deal before the self-imposed June 30 deadline,” she added.
Concerning the Yemeni crisis, Afkham reiterated Iran’s call for a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Yemen.
She expressed regret over Saudi Arabia’s refusal to halt its airstrikes on Yemen during the fasting month of Ramadan.
