The Arab Cultural center in Abou Rummaneh held on Sunday an exhibition for the prominent artist Jamal A- Abbas entitled “Aesthetic Mysteries at a Hard Time”.
43 small paintings drawn with Chinese ink and watercolors in addition to 3 oil paintings were displayed in the exhibition.
Al-Abbas draws inspiration from the eastern environment, which is characterized by its bright colors that call for optimism and motherhood.
He told Syria Times: “The paintings depict nature and man in modern expressive styles with his own artistic vision…. Faces and figures include various meanings and expressions and deep emotions that depict reality”.
He went on to say: “The small paintings depict themes and inner ideas .Though they are small paintings they embody our social life which is full of happiness worries and sorrows. The paintings also reflect hopes, dreams and love.”
“My paintings are inspired from humans and nature. Man is the main basic theme in my paintings. I try to reflect on the life of humans “He added, pointing out his paintings reflect his inner emotions and ideas.
The prominent artist Jamal Al-Abbas was born in the city of Sweida in 1941. He is one the founders of the Center for Fine Arts in Sweida in 1973.
He has been a writer and a lecturer since 1970. He held many exhibitions, and has participated in many exhibitions inside Syria and abroad. He is a member of the unions of plastic artists in Syria. He won local and Arab awards.
