Adviser to the Iraqi Prime Minister: We support Syria’s unity, security and stability, and we reject the siege on its people

Baghdad (ST): The political advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Fadi Al-Shammari, renewed his country’s permanent support for Syria’s unity, security and stability, and rejected the Western blockade imposed on its people.

Al-Shammari said in a statement to SANA news reporter in Baghdad about the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani to Syria, “the visit is a reminder of Iraq’s position in support of Syria’s return to the Arab League and taking its natural place, and an affirmation of Iraq’s support for the efforts exerted to lift the siege on the Syrian people.”

Al-Shammari stressed the need for joint cooperation between the two countries and the countries of the region to achieve stability, which represents the main entry point for economic development, explaining that the focus was on discussing common challenges, including the refugee file, water scarcity and its environmental effects, and combating drug trafficking.

In turn, member of the Iraqi Parliament and head of the Euphrates Movement parliamentary bloc, Ruqayyah al-Nouri, confirmed that al-Sudani’s visit to Damascus is a message of support from the new Iraq to the steadfast sister Syria.

Al-Nouri called for expanding cooperation and economic, trade and investment openness, and supporting relations in all fields between the two countries.

For his part, the head of the Iraqi People’s Committee for Supporting Syria and the Resistance, Abd al-Ridha al-Hamid, affirmed that President Bashar al-Assad’s meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani was the culmination of Iraq’s stances in support of Syria since the start of the terrorist war against it.

The leader of the Arab Nationalists Movement “Iraq Region” Khaled Hassan affirmed that the meeting achieved what we aspire to in terms of positive, high-level interaction between the two countries, which faced common challenges.
