Activity and medical clinic for supporting woman in Daraa and Damascus countryside on occasion of IWD

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, The Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development at Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch in Daraa held Tuesday an activity called ‘Antee’ You.

The women participated in the activity called for defending Woman’s causes and empowering her to be active in development process as well as stopping violence against woman and taking care of the women with the special needs.

 

Coordinator of the southern region in the department Riad Shtiwi said that a qualified team will disseminate awareness about the principle of violence based on gender among the women in order to reactivate woman’s role in society.

He added that the department has programs for educating women, honing their skills in wool knitting and raising their awareness in the field of health and psychological support in order to alleviate the repercussion of the ongoing crisis in Syria.

Medical clinic for psychological support in Jaramana city 

On the same occasion, the Syrian Catholic Church in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund opened yesterday a medical clinic in Jaramana city in Damascus countryside to offer psychological and moral support to woman.

The UNPFA’s representative in Syria Masimo Diana said that the center will help the Syrian woman during the difficult circumstances she is going through and will train her to find a job and will support her psychologically to go ahead with her role in society.

“We work with the civil society to increase the number of the UNPFA centers from 14 to 22,” he added, pointing out that the center seeks to attract women living in the temporary shelters.

On his part, the Father IssaN’omKhouri underlined the importance of supporting woman to be more active in the society.

Director of the Relief and Development Center in the Syrian Catholic Church Shadi Fadel said that the clinic was opened in the city of Jaramana to attract a large number of displace women, who face a lot of problems due to the change of the circumstances.
