Activities of the 1st Specialist International Exhibition for Renewable Energy

Damascus, (ST) – Under the auspices of the Ministry of Electricity, activities of the First Specialist International Exhibition for Renewable Energy were launched yesterday at the Dama Rose Hotel. The event was organized by the Syrian International Foundation for Marketing, “SIMA” with the support of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, the Damascus Engineers’Union and with the participation of dozens of Arab, international and local companies.

In a press release, Minister of Electricity, Imad Khamis, confirmed that organizing this exhibition in such circumstances is an indication of the power of the state, despite the war experienced by Syria and a clear evidence that the development process is going on in the economic domain with the contribution of private sector.

Mr.Khamis pointed out that the importance of investing in renewable energy is  to increase energy production and to meet the developmental needs of the state,and the needs of citizens, pointing out that the various participation of the government and private companies in the exhibition is a sign on the complementary process in the field of the development.

He explained that the ministry put the executive steps for several legislations to encourage investment by the private sector and participatory in the field of renewable energies and resettlement related industries which will provide thousands of jobs, pointing to the existence of a number of leading companies in the field of renewable energy projects.

For his part, Minister of Public Works, Eng. Hussein Arnous,believed that the exhibition is a message to the world that Syria is recovering and started doing serious and actual implementation of development projects.

He pointed out that the ministry is interested in the exhibitions held in Syria, especially related to infrastructure including this exhibition, which is considered a big leap in the alternative energy equipment manufactured locally and which the State is seeking to develop and encourage them to meet local needs.

For his part, Director General of the Syrian International Foundation for Marketing,MowafaqTayara,stressed the importance of crystallization of the government directions to activate the use of renewable energies and the adoption of national policies that meet the demand for alternative energy and the focus on renewable energy to change the style and culture of excessive consumption of resources in general and energy in particular through the support of research and studies.

Mr. Tayara clarified that the strategic view of renewable energies now includes not only reduce dependence on oil and gas for electricity generation but also reduce the production affecting pollution and global warming,consequently climate change, pointing to the importance of the announcement of the government incentives such as tax reduction on economic activity on the rationalization of resources consumption with its various development dimensions.

The three -day exhibition will witness the participation of companies specialized in energy and environmental systems sectors of housing, industry, agriculture and medical industries, cables, lines and distribution of electric power generating sets and capabilities of alternative and renewable technologies treatment, purification and desalination of water, equipment testing, storage, heating, cooling and transport equipment.

The activities of the exhibition, in the second and third days, include lectures dealing with the development challenges for the electricity sector, strategic vision of the Ministry of Electricity and rationalization,  energy conservation and the challenges of the network of power transmission, practical applications of the company savings in the field of solar energy as well as topics related to the applications of electricity, solar energy, the structure of the solar panels and methods of selection system generating and investment in the electricity sector.
