Damascus, (ST) – The 50th Extraordinary Conference of the Federation of Arab Institutions in Latin America (FIARAB America) continues its activities for the third day at Reda Saeed Hall in Damascus University focusing on the axis of “Objectives of Identity and Belonging.”.
In her speech, the Minister of Culture, Dr. Labana Mashouh confirmed that despite the terrorist war that the country was exposed to over a period of twelve years, it attempted to target the authenticity of the Syrian identity, and despite the damage, deliberate sabotage, theft and smuggling that befell elements of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, in addition to the stifling siege, and more recently the earthquake disaster, this only increased the Syrian people’s faith and determination to adhere to their identity and belonging.
The Minister of Culture said: We all worked under the generous patronage of President Bashar Al-Assad and First Lady Asma Al-Assad to protect and preserve heritage, restoring, rehabilitating and getting back stolen and smuggled items.
Minister Mashouh said that Arabs in general and Syrians in particular, possess a historical, civilizational and cultural specificity, in addition to a general system of values and customs that distinguishes Syria from others, and is considered the first and deepest determinant of cultural identity.
Regarding national identity, Minister Mashouh considered that it is the greatest common denominator for the various cultural identities formed within the state and that it is the basis for its establishment. She added that the feeling of national identity is manifested through love for the homeland, belonging to it, and by sensing its virtue.This is followed with loyalty and giving priority to its interest in all circumstances.
