With the aim of activating joint tourism cooperation between Syria and the Republic of Pakistan, the Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday held a joint workshop between the tourism and travel offices of the two countries at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus.
The workshop focused on the development of various tourism fields, especially entertainment and culture, between the two countries and on the possibility of exchanging tourism groups between the two countries.
In a press statement, Assistant Minister of Tourism Nidal Mashfej highlighted the importance of the workshop for the return of tourism diversity between the two countries through mutual visits and tourism products and increasing the number of tourists.
For his part, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Damascus Shahid Akhtar said that the aim of this workshop is to introduce the true image of tourism in Syria, through members of tourist offices in the country, and to promote and expand tourism to include entertainment and cultural activities, and to attract the largest number of Pakistani tourists to Damascus, after tourism was limited to religious matters.
The ambassador pointed out that representatives of Pakistani tourist offices participated in the workshop to express their impressions about what they have seen in Syria, and to shed light on the tourism aspects in Pakistan, considering that this workshop is the beginning of the launch of expanding relations in the tourism fields and relations between the two countries in general, especially since the components of Syrian tourism are great and diverse.
Chairman of the Federation of Syrian chambers of Tourism Talal Khdeir indicated that the Federation seeks to develop tourism between Syria and Pakistan, as a tour was organized for Pakistani office owners to introduce to them the important tourist places in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, and Lattakia, pointing out that the completion of the electronic platform will increase the organization of tourist trips between the two countries.
A number of Syrian tourism office owners highlighted the importance of the workshop to enhance close cooperation between Syrian tourism companies and their Pakistani counterparts, pointing out that there are many cities in Pakistan to which flights could be operated in the future, such as the cities of Lahore, Islamabad, and others.
They stressed that the workshop will contribute to attracting tourists from various countries of the world, especially Pakistan, which is considered as one of the tourist exporting countries in the world.
A number of Pakistani tourism office owners said: “The aim of participating in the workshop is to promote religious and cultural tourism in Pakistan and attract religious groups to visit the holy places in Syria.”
