ActionAid International: The Gaza Strip is one of the most dangerous places in the world for women

ActionAid International has confirmed that the Gaza Strip is the most dangerous place in the world for girls and women, for they suffer from unprecedented levels of violence as a result of the ongoing Israeli occupation’s aggression against them. The number of people being killed increases every hour, and at the same time their struggle to meet their basic needs increases.

Wafa Agency quoted the organization as saying in a statement today: As the world concludes the 16-day campaign to combat gender-based violence, women and girls in Gaza are being killed and injured every day at horrific rates, while being deprived of their basic rights to food, water, and health care. They are also exposed to psychological pressure at massive and shocking rates following two months of living in terror.

The organization explained that the numbers paint a stark and horrific picture, as two mothers are killed every hour and seven women are killed every two hours in the Gaza Strip, and almost every woman and girl has lost someone, whether it is her child, her husband, her parents, her brother, or one of her relatives and friends, indicating that women and children constitute about 70 percent of the total victims of the occupation’s aggression.

The organization pointed out that there are about 50,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip, and the lives of 180 of them are at risk every day during birth-giving without adequate medical care, in addition to the undergoing cesarean sections and emergency operations without sterilization, anesthesia, or painkillers.

The organization indicated that the occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip has caused the displacement of 800,000 women from their homes, often several times, and many women and girls now live in very crowded facilities that do not meet the most basic needs.

The organization stated that the psychological damage suffered by women and girls in Gaza is serious as it is a damage sustained even before the current Israeli aggression. Palestinian women have been subjected to repeated human rights violations due to the siege and previous Israeli attacks.
