Cairo, (ST) – Participants in the General Assembly and the Executive Council of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) discussed achievements and research projects of the center’s meeting during the past two years, particularly in the areas of development of new varieties of wheat, barley and sorghum that have been adopted for extensive agriculture in many Arab countries, in addition to development projects of pasture and combating desertification.
Participants in the meetings held in Cairo from February 29 until March 2 reviewed the achievements of the center in the implementation of studies and projects of the Arab water security strategy and the impact of climate change on water resources in the Arab countries up to the year 2030 and measures to reduce wastage of irrigation water and upgradingthe efficiency of these projects implemented in the field of harvesting rainfalls.
Participants also discussed the achievements of the Assembly in the field of livestock, particularly sheep, goats, camels and to increase the production of milk, meat and raise the proportion of twins at birth develop.
The meeting included a review of the center’sprojects in the Arab countries in the use of non-conventional water in agriculture, particularly the treated ofwastewater, gray water and saline.
The Ministers, the members of the General Assembly of the Research Applied Projects, stressed the importance of continued research to its importance in the Arab Agricultural Development.
Director General of the Arab CenterDr. Rafiq Ali Salehwas also re-elected for 4 years unanimously.
