Damascus, (ST) – The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) recently held a training course on the safe use of treated water of solid waste in agriculture, the resources of water pollution, soil and their danger on the human being.
The course included themes dealt with ACSAD’s experience in the field of treated water use in Arab agriculture and various technologies for wastewater treatment and water resources, soil and vegetation pollution in nature and bacterial, chemical environmental pollution, the threat to human health and the treatment of gray water re-use, dissemination of crops and fruit trees.
The Director of Agricultural Guidance at the Ministry of Agriculture Jamal Farroukh pointed out that the aim of the course is to enable a greater number of agricultural guides to transfer of technologies to farmers in the provinces and increase agricultural productivity.
Director of Land and Water Uses at ACSAD Omar Jezdan said that the Ministry of Agriculture is one of the most important supporters of ACSAD through constructive cooperation, adding that this session is a maiden to plan future cooperation in various specialized fields so as to transfer the experience of the center to be circulated in Syria, pointing out that water scarcity is one of the most important problems in the region, therefore it was necessary to focus on alternative technologies that reduce the burden on fresh water and their uses.
Trainees attended the course from the Ministry of Environment, the Public Authority for Agricultural Research and the central departments at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and the directorates of agriculture in the provinces of Damascus, Daraa and Quneitra.
