ACSAD Establishes New Units for Biogas Production

DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Areas and Dry Zones (ACSAD) recently completed the construction of two units for the production of biogas in Syria.

The Director-General of the Center, Dr. Rafiq Ali Saleh underlined in a press statement that the completion of these two units in the governorate of Lattakia comes because of scientific cooperation between the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and ACSAD to invest in biogas energy in the Syrian rural community and preservation of the environment.

“The size of each unit is 22 cubic meters with reservoir to collect the output of fermentation amounted to 16 cubic meters, noting that previously the center established many of the units producing biogas in the rural areas of the Syrian governorates in favor of the Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Damascus,” Dr. Saleh indicated.

He explained that the search for sources of environmentally friendly energy, including biogas energy which  has become one of the most important global trends and an appropriate technology for rural development and to improve environmental conditions in the countryside and reduce to a great deal of the effects of pollution problems.

Dr. Saleh pointed out that this technology contributes to the reduction of the problems of environmental pollution resulting from each of the animal waste and sanitation in rural areas.
