Academic cooperation between Damascus University and Chile’s Bernardo O’Higgins University discussed

Damascus (ST) – Rector of Damascus University Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban and Rector of the Chilean University of Bernardo O’Higgins Claudio Ruff Escobar on Monday discussed prospects of academic and cultural cooperation between the two universities, especially in the field of exchanging teachers and students’ visits, the publication of scientific research and the exchange of experiences.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to sign an agreement between the two universities to identify areas of research and cultural cooperation in various specializations of common interest. They also agreed on exchanging scientific visits for professors and students, participating in conferences and scientific activities that are held in both universities, as well as jointly supervising of master’s research theses, and Ph.D.

Dr. Al-Jabban stressed the university’s readiness to develop its relations with the Chilean universities, and to benefit from the available expertise especially in the field of seismic research and studies, as well as cooperation in the field of organizing online lectures and publishing scientific research works in the scientific journals in both universities.

In turn, Escobar noted the important scientific and historical position of Damascus University, stressing keenness on enhancing scientific and cultural cooperation with Damascus University to be a start for cooperation with other Syrian universities.

He pointed out that this is the first visit by a delegation from the Chilean Bernardo O’Higgins University, which provides higher education to 9 thousand students and includes various specializations. This visit is an exploratory one to study the available capabilities of both sides and organize mutual coordination, he added.

Ambassador of the Republic of Chile in Damascus José Patricio Brickel attended the meeting.
