About 1.24 million hectares cultivated with wheat, 1.2 million hectares with barley

Damascus (ST): The Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Nazik Al-Ali, announced that the process of planting wheat and barley crops in all governorates has been completed, noting that the areas cultivated with the wheat crop for this season amounted to 1,249,584 hectares.

Al-Ali added in a statement: The irrigated areas cultivated with wheat amounted to 578,998 hectares, while 670,586 hectares were cultivated under rain fed conditions, while the area cultivated with wheat in safe areas amounted to 546,873 hectares.

In turn, the Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Ahmed Haidar, stated that 1,193,763 hectares have been cultivated with barely, of which 438,242 hectares are in safe areas, while the amount of wheat seeds distributed reached 53,681 tons.

He pointed out that the proportion of the area cultivated with wheat amounted to 74 percent of the plan for the total area, while it reached 91 percent in safe areas, pointing out that 102,211 hectares were cultivated with food legumes , including 77 thousand hectares with lentils, 9956 hectares with chickpeas, 13,717 hectares with broad beans, and 1,533 hectares with peas.

Haider added: The area cultivated with medicinal and aromatic crops amounted to 38,918 hectares, including 21,887 hectares with cumin, 1714 hectares with anise, 1923 hectares with black cumin, 13,202 hectares with coriander and 1923 hectares with various crops, pointing out that the area cultivated with potato crops for the spring season has so far reached 4,977 hectares out of the plan of 16,055 hectares.
