Abdullahian: The unjust blockade on Syria must be lifted to improve the humanitarian situation there

Geneva (ST): Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian stressed the need to lift the unjust blockade imposed on Syria, in order to improve the humanitarian conditions there.
Iranian news agency, IRNA, quoted Abdullahian as saying during his meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths in Geneva: “Unfortunately, the recent earthquake that struck Syria exacerbated the harsh humanitarian conditions in some areas of this country, compared to the past, and therefore it is necessary to lift the siege  imposed on it in order to improve the humanitarian conditions of his people.”
Abdullahian referred to the humanitarian aid provided by Iran to Syria after the recent earthquake, and added: “As in the past, Tehran is ready to continue cooperation with the United Nations and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to contribute to improving the health and humanitarian conditions in Syria.”
